Give Yourself a Break

Just because you've graduated from school, arrived from the best internship in the universe, and have gotten yourself certified in everything under the sun, doesn't mean you will land that perfect job right away. At least not overnight. The cliché that looking for work is a full-time job is a cliché because it's true. So take a deep breath, hold off on getting depressed, and keep sending out those CVs and cover letters. When you're done, take a little break and do something that gives you pleasure -- watch some mindless TV, go for a bike ride by the lake, read a book or see some friends who aren't in your field and won't make you feel too anxious and competitive.

Hired & Quitting

You got hired and it turns out that the job is a job from hell. Too bad, just grind your teeth and bear it because there's been all that effort that people put into hiring you -- you can't just walk out of the door, right? Wrong. By quitting a job you hate sooner rather than later you will not only save yourself a lot of grief but also will preserve your well-being overall. Stress can affect your psyche and your physical health and there's nothing more stressful than an ill-fitting job. If you're asking yourself if you should quit, you should -- your heart's not in it. Damage control and get out.

Give It a Rest

Think that being super productive means charging your way through the workday? Well, you're wrong. Taking periodic breaks at work is not only good for you -- it's necessary. The human brain can't sustain intense concentration for hours on end. Your body shouldn't be confined to the same position (whether sitting or standing) for too long either. Even on the busiest days, be sure to step away for a moment or two. Get some fresh air, chat with a colleague or stop to savour a tasty treat. You'll return to work refreshed and better able to get down to business.
