Five years ago, I graduated with a fine arts degree and haven't worked in the field. Although I paint on the side I don't make much money; instead I have mostly survived by working retail. I really want to leave the shoe store I'm working at and think I would prefer working as a gallery assistant. I've looked online but those jobs seem hard to find ... please let me know how I can get my foot in the door.

I have a Masters in Social Work (M.S.W.) from India and four years of work experience in child protection. My application for the Skilled Workers Program has been approved and I am planning to move to Canada (in the Toronto region) in three to four months. Could you let me know how long it takes to get employment as a social worker and if there is anything I need to do to prepare myself?

Last year I graduated from a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Integrated Media Program where I found out that I LOVE shooting videos. Since then I unsuccessfully applied to numerous jobs -- everything from video editor to visual merchandiser to helping homeless youth make art. I worked on a couple of film sets for free but the only job I could get that actually paid was selling lingerie. My dream was to become a video or film director but things look bleak and hopeless now. Do you have any suggestions of where to go from here?

I am in my mid-fifties and want to leave my medical administration position for a position that is less demanding. I wouldn't mind working as an admin assistant in the social services or nonprofit sector but I don't want any more medical admin assistant jobs (too stressful). I am open to working in the healthcare field in some other position or working with seniors. I can't afford to go back to school full-time but I am open to short-term retraining.
