Home ›Special Diet Allowance now includes pre-diabetes
Thursday, May 17, 2012
Social assistance recipients with pre-diabetes can now receive the Special Diet Allowance (SDA), according to this bulletin from the Income Security Advocacy Centre. You can get an application form from your Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program caseworker. After losing a case at the Human Rights Tribunal in February 2010 the Province changed the rules for the SDA, removing the condition “pre-diabetes” from the list of medical conditions that people must have to be eligible for the allowance. This April 2012 the provincial government put out an information bulletin including pre-diabetes in its definition of diabetes, a condition that is eligible for the SDA.
